Major Update - Terrain
Welcome to the first major update of my multiplayer level, "Advantage." This level design was first drafted after spending a few years modding for Halo Custom Edition. I had gone through multiple designs for levels and wanted to generate something doable, but a bit complex and fun. I would table the design only to return to it several years later, having remembered its main concept of a giant structure in the middle with multiple bases and sprawling terrain surrounding it.
Below on the left is the new blueprint I drew at the beginning of my senior year of my undergraduate. The main focus was to establish the blueprints of the level for me to follow later, using 3ds Max. Below on the right is the first digitally rendered overview of the level.

When it was first conceptualized many years ago, the environmental theme featured mostly planes and a bit of forest to consume space. Upon returning to it years later, I was deciding on a more dense, foggy forest scenario. The more I thought about it, the more dull it became for me and I depreciated the idea even more as I spoke with my professors. I would eventually decide on the current theme of sand and gold as the interaction of the two materials felt more appealing. From there I thought of implementing jewels and transparent, yet vibrant materials to the structures of the level. The goal is to evoke a sense of mystery, power and the need to explore.
One team will start at the north base, while the other will start at the south base. They can either mobilize to the side bases or go into their respective bases to an underground interior where they're less likely to encounter the other team on their way to the center structure, unless the other team races to the connecting side structure as well. The goal of each team is to reach the center structure, which gives both teams vision of the entire map. Vision is an extremely useful resource in multiplayer games, so it can be imperative for teams to fight for the middle. Furthermore, the main structure has an underground passage that leads to both underground side bases, so the whichever team holds the middle structure will have quicker accessibility to the rest of the level and a great advantage overall. Speaking of which...

Expect another layer of the level next update. Until then, enjoy the screenshots from the new update!
